Is there an official list of animals regarded as vermin in UK? And is vermin
the same as 'pest'? It seems to me that people call any animal they don't
like vermin. Thanks.

Magpies
Crows and Rooks
Jays
Grey Squirrels
Brown Rats
Woodpigeons
Feral Pigeons
Collared Doves
Rabbits
Starlings
Sparrows
Mink

This is as close as I can get to a list. But "vermin" is subjective.
They are wildlife persecuted on the basis that those in power see them
as a threat to certain economic and environmental interests.

The human infestation causes more harm than the lot put together.

If we don't class humans as vermin then we shouldn't castigate other
species.

No, for birds that is much out of date.

The so-called "pest" schedule of the W&CA, i.e. a list of species that
can be controlled at any time, has been superceded and now come under
the terms of "General Licences" (i.e. you don't need to get legal
permission - only the landowner/occupier's to kill the following:

Feral pigeon
Carrion Crow
Hooded Crow
Rook
Magpie
Jackdaw
Jay
Great Black Backed Gull
Lesser Black Backed Gull

To which can be added, in England and Wales, but not Scotland:
Herring Gull
Canada Goose
Woodpigeon
Collared Dove

House Sparrow and Starling were removed from General Licences some while
back and any control requires a Special Licence.

There is no legal definition of "vermin". You are right in thinking it
means anything that a person doesn't like.

So why did you breed?
